5 Bathroom Cleaning Tips

Whether you love it or hate it, cleaning your bathroom is an essential part of every household routine. We’ve pulled together our top 5 cleaning tips to take your bathroom, from grime-y to shiny!

Sparkling Showerhead

The shower head is a key player of your shower, however it can be forgotten about, it’s not until your standing underneath mid shower that you notice all the grime that’s built up. If you live in a “hard” water area, limescale can build up fairly quickly.

It might seem odd, but white vinegar is the answer to all your limescale problems.

Pour white vinegar into a sandwich bag, alongside your unscrewed showerhead, making sure the head is fully submerged in vinegar. Leave it to soak for at least an hour to work its magic, remove it from the bag, and spray down your showerhead with your favourite disinfectant. Finally, blast your shower at a hot temperature to get rid of any excess residue.

Please note, this trick works best with chrome shower heads.

Grim Grout

Cleaning your bathroom grout can feel overwhelming especially if the grime and black mould has built up. However, there are ways to get it looking sparkling, without having to renovate your entire bathroom.

Our favourite product to use is a Black Mould Remover Spray. You can find any decent spray in the cleaning aisle of your local supermarket. Make sure to read the instructions before attempting to clean, always wear protective gloves, and keep your windows open during the clean. Spray all areas affected, and leave it for the designated time stated in the instructions, with the bathroom door closed. Then, spray down the areas with your favourite disinfectant to get rid of any nasty residue left behind. Trust us, it’s magical!

Chrome fixtures

Chrome taps and shower valves are easily overlooked during regular cleanings, and can also be affected by limescale. Soak kitchen roll in lemon juice and wrap around both taps and valves. Leave this to soak for an hour then scrub gently and rinse; the acidity of the lemon juice should break down the limescale.

When your chrome fixtures are clean, give them a polish with baby oil and a microfiber cloth to make them shiny and bright.

Dreaded Drain

Yes, cleaning the shower drain is a super grim job, but ignoring this unpleasant task could make it 10 times worse down the line.

Firstly, remove anything that’s physically blocking the drain, like hair. Remove any initial debris with your fingers, then insert a drain snake into the drain, using a slight twisting motion. Tug upwards slowly to start pulling blockages out, then put anything you pull out straight into a plastic bag. Repeat until you’ve cleared everything out.

Lastly, blast any remaining dirt by pouring baking soda down the drain, followed swiftly with distilled white vinegar. The combination will create a fizzing action that will work away at grime. Leave for at least 20 minutes, then pour your favourite scented concentrated disinfectant alongside boiling water to flush the mixture away.

Shiny Shower Doors

For glass shower doors and shower screens, an antibacterial bathroom cleaner should work for everyday grime. Spray generously, lather with a damp cloth and wipe away with a squeegee to avoid streaks.

For more stubborn soap scum, create a paste of baking soda and water, and use a non-abrasive sponge to scrub the glass.

If you’re left with streaks, try spraying with a combination of white vinegar and water decanted into a spray bottle. Spray the glass generously and wipe away with kitchen roll for a streak-free finish.

Top tip: you can also use this on mirrors and windows!
